Gambit — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 June 2026.

Gambit is a chess app published by Salient Vision Technologies, LLC. It is local-first: you can play every game type — against the computer or pass-and-play — completely offline, with no account and no data leaving your device. A few features are optional and use the network; those are described below.

What we collect by default

Nothing. With no account and online features unused, Gambit collects no personal data. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs. Your games, move history, and settings are stored only on your device; removing the app removes them.

Online play (optional)

If you start or join an online game, the app connects you to your opponent through a relay/matchmaking server. To do this it exchanges a temporary, pseudonymous public key and your game moves. This is not tied to your name, email, or device identifiers, and the data is used only to run that match. If you never play online, none of this occurs.

Sign in with Knomee (optional)

You may optionally sign in with a Knomee identity to sync your finished games across your own devices. If you do, your Knomee handle/identifier and your saved game records are stored in the app's cloud database, keyed to that identity, so your history follows you between devices. This is used only to provide the sync feature — never for advertising or tracking. Signing in is entirely optional; the app is fully playable without it.

What we never do

No advertising, no behavioral analytics, no selling or sharing of data with third parties, no third-party tracking SDKs.

Children

Gambit is suitable for all ages. No personal information is collected from anyone, including children, unless an adult chooses to use the optional online or sign-in features described above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date.
